Default hypertech cooling switch problem

just installed a hypertech cooling fan switch and its installed in the
correct spot (pass side rear head) and its showing all the symptoms
of being installed wrong. the guage shows lo to 299.the installation
manual says it will do that if its installed in the wrong location??

The fan switch (should) goes to the fan relay, not the guage.

Was there a sensor already installed in the passenger side?

Do you have the booster fan?

Default hypertech switch

the hypertech switch installs in place of the standard switch on the drivers side of the engine towards the front, the temp switch on the rh cylinder head is for the dash temp guage

thanks. after reading other responses I think I'll go with a manual on/off switch for the primary fan.

On my 1989 that switch/sensor is for the aux fan. Maybe your iron heads are different.

Just replace the Aux Fan switch (between #1 & #3 spark plugs) with the new switch and splice into the Grn/Wht wire from that switch to the main fan relay (on inner fender well below brake MC) Grn/Wht wire.

You can get insulation displacement connectors and mating lugs at Radion Shack which will make the connection a piece of cake. I routed the new wire through the large wire bundle running along the LH fender well for a very stealth installation.
