Looks like a very sweet build -- congrats! I'd be willing to bet you'll be above your target HP.

Nice build!

Chevy Hi-Performance used those same heads to make 550 with a 333ci motor! I don't think it has your kind of torque though. A real testament to the guys at AFR.

Thanks guys

Hey Mike, any details on your build? I believe your aiming for spring time right? If so, me you and Rick should hit the track together.

My plans for the summer of 09 is to upgrade to Morel lifters, dial in this combo as well as I can tune wise, and at that point I may still try the original cam I had planned which was a 242/248 615/600 112. Then again I may just leave well enough alone and maybe try that cam down the road if/when the motor gets freshened up.

I can say this to anyone building a similar engine with these heads. DO NOT be afraid to use a cam in the 240s unless you want a smoother idle of course. I have TONS of low end torque to spare for a bigger cam plus, I'm running 3.73s not 4.09s yet it still feels very "snappy".

Although I'm lovin the current setup, I do like the fact that there's room to grow if I ever get the ***** to go faster!

I don't want to bother posting my details in your post but things sort of hit a road block. I'm considering a whole new shortblock component wise if I go the blower route. I'm leaning towards NA since I do want high rpms. The intake manifold I used in th previous build has turned out to be a hack job with all the ports drastically different from each other practically hogged out in the wrong areas. I wanted to reuse it since its been modified to run a dizzy so theres lots of welding etc to be done to fix it. I wanted to go a with a sheetmetal intake but I'm not wasting the dough on that unless I went with 18 or 15 degree heads with a bowtie block. Besides all that the cam is a one off custom grind with a lsx firing order so thats 6 months right there.

things aren't looking bright to have it all ready for spring and on top of that I don't have a shoppe to go to to get help installing the motor/trans etc. WHen it is said and done I'm definitely looking forward to going to the track with you guys ! Until then I'm living the engine build through your posts and videos !!!

I agree, a motor of that size could use a 240 cam. My 230 cam is a baby in my 383 yet still makes 400whp. Sounds mean and choppy but its actually rather tame driving

Well in that case I'll have to post some more videos then.

I did the motor re&re at my place and I have done quite a few LT1s before. I can't do the trans here ( I left my trans in the car during my swap ) but if you need help putting in your motor let me know. If you have some decent tools, we could bring my stand, hoist and compressor to your place and tag team the install there.

I will warn you though it will cost you at least a few steaks!!

I appreciate the offer ! I do have no problem doing anything else on my car myself i just don't have the tools nor the experience with anything as heavy as a motor/trans install. I was leaning towards just asking a shoppe to use a hoist and tools and hopefully have someone experienced (you !) help me do it all.

I'm just not going to worry about it until spring I'll more than likely give you a ring to get your input Until then I'll just watch your vids over and over Your motor sounds badazz !!

Come on Pyreidi tear into that thing you know you want to.

Cant wait to hear more progress and vids on your build.
If you jump up in cam down the road try a solid out. Youre at that "line" now.

Pryderei:

No problem...if you ever need any help, I'm here. I'll try to post some more videos too. I would post some "drive byes" or it launching and punishing the tires but I don't have any track footage of that yet. I believe we are not allowed to post anything other than track footage of something like that although I don't street race the car. I've been driving it at 3-4am on weekdays on deserted streets to break her in.

cuisinartvette:

Until I can find a dyno solution to tuning I won't consider going any bigger with the cam. When I was consulting Alvin about cam choice for tuning, he told me once I get into the 240s it will be very difficult to do it through mail order. I would much rather maximise the smaller cams potential than half a$$ a bigger one.

If I went with a solid roller, which was tempting, I would have gone with the 210cc head and take advantage of the extra lift from both the head and the roller cam.
