Default Electric waterpump question?? Please help.

I am looking at putting either a CSI or Meizere electric waterpump on my car along with a new Opticrap. Can i put the new electric pump in my old waterpump housing if it was leaking?? Or do i have to buy a new waterpump and an electric waterpump to go in it?? I know this is probably a stupid question but i just wanna make sure i do it right and don't spend more money than i have to. Thanx guys.

Actually works best if you use your old water pump housing. No sense in destroying a good pump.

Was the pump leaking through the seap hole or does the housing have a hole in it? If it was just seaping because it went bad you will be fine reusing the housing.

BTW, I would recommend the Meziere standard duty pump. I run the heavy duty pump and found it to be a bitch to get in there. It would be much easier to get the pump in there with the standard duty. I had to put the pump on the motor in 2 peices (after I already had installed it on the motor out of the car, motor would not go in with the pump on) in order to get the pump in the space, and I had to loosen the AC equipment to get the clearance to slide the pump on. Has plenty of room after I got it in there, just makes it more difficult to R&R.

Well the problem is that i'm not sure if the current pump is leaking now or not. I can smell coolant when the temp gets to about 200. When it cools down some it goes away. I tried looking for a leak but haven't had any luck yet. The bottom of the WP has oil on it from the cover leaking but i didn't see any coolant. That was when it was cold not hot though. I figure it is time anyway with 63k miles on the car. Might as well get some performance while i'm at it and the CSI pump seems to be priced really low.

So it is ok to use it if it was leaking through the seap hole?

Yup, I would not get the CSI though. Just heard it was not very good.

Another consideration for you, check where your Nitrous feed is. If it sits directly under the intake hose, the nozzle will hit the water pump. Luckily mine sits just to the side and fit perfectly. It was something I had not considered until I put the car back together. Worst case, move the nozzle and buy a new intake tube or patch the old one.

Thank for the CSI tip. I certainly don't want any problems in that area.

Mine sits right under it of course!!!!! Guess i get to move that next. No big deal really.

I have the heavy duty one and it will rub on the A/C line. I made a cushion out of a piece of radiator hose, so far so good. I also had the A/C disconnected when I installed the pump so it could be a PITA if the system is still intact.

I don't have any nitrous plumbing to worry about, I guess that would be a consideration. BTW, I have also heard that the CSI pump is crap.

Thank for the input on the CSI pump. I guess they are cheap for a reason!!

Is 18carfan the best guy to get the Opticrap from? Looking at doing a Hot Cam while it is apart also. Guess i need to start shopping for that also.

Jeff is an excellent source for both the Opticrap and the Hotcam. (800-728-8267)

BTW, my Mez heavy duty unit has about a 1/4-1/2" clearance to the AC condensor and lines. Just had to move them to squeeze the sucker in there.

You think the standard is just fine to use though?

Any other cam suggestion besides the Hot Cam?

Either one is fine to use. The Camaro guys all use the Standard duty pump because the HD will not fit the 4th gen.

As far as the cam goes, there are a LOT of choices. Depending on your emissions requirements, I would consider the GTP-6 cam. All depends on what you want out of the car.

Emissions are a non-issue here. It is my daily driver that i street race as much as possible. I of course want the best of both worlds, you know, 30 mpg and a 10 second car!!! ;)

That seems like a pretty big cam since i don't have ported heads. I sure dont want to start a cam war in here!!!

The hot cam makes very good power for me and is still streetable. It'll make even better power for your LT4 because of the better heads. It's also one of the cheapest cams you can buy. Lcvette has proven you can go 370+ horsepower with it, that's pretty good for such a mild cam.

BTW, you CAN make a HD Meziere fit a 4th gen Camaro, you just have to trim the fan shroud for it to work. That's what all the Camaro guys around here do. It doesn't interfere with the fan, just the shroud, a little bit of notching is all that's needed.

I will probably go withthe Hot Cam since it is priced right and seems to work good for everybody. Whenever i can afford to port the heads and intake i will go with a solid roller.

Has anybody had problems with the standard pump?
