Default Oil Temp Sensor on a '96 Question...

Is replacing the oil temp sensor a do-it-yourselfer kind of task? Any roundabouts as to how much the sensor runs or any pointers in replacement? Any insight is greatly appreciated

Access is the only challenge since the driver's side cat is in the way. Other than that, no big deal.

Before replacing it, you might want to check the connector and the outlet spade. The oil temp as others mentioned, is right next to the oil filter. On my Corvette, the oil seepage from the heads (now repaired with new head gaskets) contaminated the heck out of the connector and lug. When you'd start the car cold, the oil temp would read 320 degrees! The female connector had long lost it's hard cap, so I douched the heck out of both connector and spade with electronics cleaner, wiped it off, then applied heat shrink tubing over the exposed connector. Hooked it up and then shrunk the tubing. No problems since. Start it up and it say's low temp and then adjusts correctly as you're driving.
