Does anyone know of any websites with 700r4 info. Tips on rebuilding, mods, thoery, ect. My friends tranny is junk, and his builder can't get it right. I told him I will rebuild it for him. I am going to buy a manual, just want some additional info. Thanks.
Your best bet is to look for the local trans parts supply houses ( no, not the local tranny repair shop...but the shop that they get parts from ). Go there and buy the ATSG 700R4 manual and update manual.
That will be better information than ANY aftermarket suppliers website, you will actually see REAL details, rather than a sales pitch for a solid servo.
Those same shops will sale you the same parts that the expensive aftermarket companies do, but for about 1/4 the price. ( IE: The last FULL BLOWN transgo shift kit I bought cost $35.00, where Summitt sales them for about three times as much ).
Lonnie: I found the LevelTen.com website to be the best. they offer books on rebuilding and video tapes. They also sell parts kits to build a "bullet proof" tranny. They are located in NJ ski country, down the street from some old Playboy resort. The owner (pat) is very freindly and helpful. Call with questions or get a catalog. I am very happy with my new trans from them. :yesnod:
Lonnie, J C Whitney sells the Automatic Transmission Service Group (ATSG) service manyals as well as a video on the 700R4. The manuals are excellent. Do not know about the video since I did not get it. The Haynes manual is a good overviewand the GM service manual is excellent. I did the B&M bullet proof kit and it came with detailed instructions about the kit but not overall rebuild. BTW If I remember right ATSG has a web site.
