Default Bose Amps

I know there are places to buy these rebuilt for a 94, but does anyone know what is being replaced to fix them. There is an electronics program at the college where i work, this would be a good project for them but I dont want them to unsolder eveything that is on the board. Is there a couple of common parts that go bad that they can check?

It is usually the power/amp modual (small circuit board) not the speakers. There are different ones for the front and rear.

I have a couple of front power/amp boards for a 95 BOSE... I do not know if the the 95 and 96 are the same.

It seems these C-4 BOSE systems are sort of a black art.

There is to much to write so just check the link. There is a few other links with some of the best information I have seen. I have added some of my own info that relates to specific problems also.

It's my understanding that some of several electrolytic caps go bad and replacement would require some soldering.

I've repaired several Bose amps -- my own, and for others.

In all cases, it was simply easier to "shotgun" replace all the electrolytic capacitors on the amp.
This fixed every one of them.

However, if these amps are powered up for extended periods of time with the defective capacitors, they can go into oscillation and destroy the semi-conductors on the board too.

There are about 7 or 8 capacitors that I simply replace all of them.
Cost? About $7.

Electrolytic capacitors are rated in MicroFarads, Working Voltage, and temperature.
I just made sure that the new capacitor ratings were equal to or exceeded the ratings of the old ones.
Since these capacitors are for filters or coupling, they are not frequency sensitive.
I just went to the local electronics store with a list by their ratings and got them.
I didn't keep track of part numbers.

Default Bose Speaker Rebuild

If all else fails, call Bose directly. I called and they will totally rebuild the unit with the speakers and everything and it was alot cheaper than Corvette Central, etc. It is worth the call.
