Every morning when I go to my 86 roadster the battery is dead.(I mean DEAD) There is nothing wrong with the battery and I have to re-charge it. What I have to do now is disconnect the terminal at night and reattach it in the morning. Any thoughts on this ? Obviously all the lights are out. What is the best way to trouble shoot this problem.
Well I took your advice and put the meter on the terminal and then the fully charged battery, I got 17 for a reading, the same when I tried my wife's car (which doesn't have a problem.) Wouldn'T that mean there is no drain ? I am setting my meter on DC V and then putting it on 1000 on the dial. What am I doing wrong ??
Thanks Dino

You won't see much of a voltage drop but over time a draw will kill the battery. You have to measure the current draw and then start pulling fuses one at a time to identify the circuit that is drawing. You may want to enlist a friend that has set up an ammeter before so you don't cook your multimeter
Get ready for some fun! I had the same problem. It took over 30 hours of circut tracing to find the problem. If you are not good at tracing circuits or using a meter.... get some help. Try removing all of the fuses. If the battery holds up it is one of those circuits. If it still drains, then it is one of the main battery feed circuits. (you have some items that use fusible links or overloads and don't go through the fuse box)
With any luck, the battery will stay up with all of the fuses out.
Replace the fuses one at a time until the battery drains.
Keep notes and be patient.
