There is a button "cinch" on belt coils. It seems it is broken and doesn't release belt. I am trying to repair it. Mine is 84. I don't have owner's manual for my year and 93 doesn't show button like mine. Thanks.
On my '95 the button locks the belt so it no longer can extend. Also, there's some inertial sensor that locks the belt when making a tight turn. Once locked, the belt may only be tightened. The only way to release the belt from that point is to take it loose and retract it fully.
Don't know if your 84 or 93 are similar.
Hope this helps.
Yep, the 'cinch' button locks the pelvis belt and it can be only tightened (you can hear the clicks) until you release it and let it roll completely back in.
I find this very useful, because it keeps your pelvis steady, when you tighten the belt. Otherwise the side support of the benches just isn't quite adequate, if you like to take turns just a little bit harder... And definitely on track! On track I always move the bench an inch or two backwards, push the 'cinch' button and tighten the pelvis belt as tight as it goes and then move the bench back so that it gets even more tight and definitely keeps my pelvis put. This way it might get too uncomfortable for a long cruise, but I do the 'lighter' tightening always.
Also if you think the possibility of collision. If your safety belt is already tight, your body doesn't still accelerate that inch or few before the safety belt locks. Just think, why rally drivers or race car drivers are seated so tightly.
