Default Headlight question

A friend of mine with an 87 had problems with his head lights. He manually raised them. Now we want to check the relays. Is there anything you have to do to close them manually? Or will they operate normally if we just have to replace bad relays?

To close them manually, turn the black **** located on top of the motor. Check your owner's manual for manual headlight operation procedures.

I suggest changing the relays... I just went through that with my 84.. I was ready to spend $600 but finally got the relays in and sure enough they worked...

Yes, I had same problem with my 87. Changed relays, and problem fixed. Just wasn't familiar with the manual headlight operation. Will try new relays. Thanks

In a black plastic box in front of the driver side wheel well. Just above the vacuum storage "ball". 2 actuator relays and an isolation relay.

That is true for 84-87, but I think it was in 88 when they changed the relays to one module.
Can't help with the location, but I'm sure the search engine can help him.

My '92 has that single relay in the exact, same location.
