Default Changing front seal on a 700R

I'm on the phone with CuisinartVette right now.
He's on a job 100mi from home, got it done, but now he's stuck.

700R's where put in Corvettes right? I'm a stick man.

His transmission, on his work van, is vomitting fluid all over the place.

It's coming on between the engine and trans.

Sounds like a seal.

Anyone know how hard it is to change the front seal on a 700R?

It's my understanding that you have to drop the A4 to do the front seal.

Right, but once the converter is off, you don't need a special puller or anything do you?

Hammer, big screwdriver, maybe a sharp chisel and visegrips.

Directly beneath the seal is the guts of the oil pump. Essential not to drop any dirt or debris in there.

Thanks for posting, towtruck just dropped me off.

Went up a long grade (14 miles uphill), acted fine never leaked. 10 min later on the fwy looked in my mirror and nothing but smoke. Managed to get off the fwy and parked right away.

Fuid pumping out of the front of the trans like theres no tomorrow.

Figured maybe I got it hot so I let it cool for an hour and upon starting it started puking it right away in "P".

Is this normal for a seal or could it be something worse?

The same thing happened when i had my iroc years ago the front seal in the trans was leaking bad so i dropped the trans and replaced the seal and took it for test drive and again it was leaking from the front seal bad.So i dropped the trans again and i noticed the flex plate was cracked all around the bolts where its bolted to the crankshaft and it caused the converter to ''walk'' and that destroyed the front transmission seal.i put in a new flex plate and front trans seal and it was fixed .

Make sure to inspect the front bushing and verify it hasn't pushed out. It'll be obvious as soon as you get the converter and seal out.

If it has pushed out is it something I can fix myself?

If it needs a bunch of trans work Im better off junking it for the whopping $75 the yard will give me.

Usually a seal going bad will just leak a small bit, getting progressively worse but if it was "puking" out then I would guess you may have some more serious issues. For all the work involved just to replace the seal I would;
A.... junk it
B.....get another trans from a junk yard and just swap them, hardly any more work than replacing the seal.

After talking to 2 tranny shops sounds like if you get these 700s really hot they can push the front bushing(??) out.
Sure the trans got plenty hot going up the grade.

Was told not to do just a seal but do the "updated kit' (whatever that is), seals and new front pump $500 for everything .

Its already been rebuilt once by Aamco 8 yrs ago..

Put 2 quarts of fluid in it and started it...Slow drip. Shifted to R and D tight as ever, drove it real easy a few blocks to my storage and parked it. Was coming down pretty good. By the time I get a converter (think this ones on its way out), flexplate Ill be into this more than the vans worth assuming the trans is still good.. Dang.
