I have an '88 with stock heads, valves and pistons.
Just before I purchase some 1.6 Ratio Comp Cams Magnum Rocker Arms, how do I calculate whether my valves are going to clout my pistons with my Comp Cams Grind: 264 Lift: .487''/.495''?
I will be changing my springs to suit a greater than .49" lift.
Re: Valve/piston clearance with my setup? (Gareth)
I'm at .560 lift with stock heads and pistons and I have no clearance issues. My heads have been milled .010 also. You shouldn't run into any clearance issues
Re: Valve/piston clearance with my setup? (Gareth)
There's really no way I know of to 'calculate' the clearance. The only way I know of is to actually measure it, either using a dial indicator method or the clay method.
The clay method does require removing the head though, while the dial indicator method doesn't (unless, of course, you find that you don't have enough clearance).
But, I agree wh AS84, you won't have any clearance problem with a .487/.495 cam.
