Is replacing the sun visors in a 1985 Corvette a big deal. My local Corvette shop owner implied that if I did it myself, I would be coming to him for a new windshield! Can you damage the windshield replacing a sun visor? Does anyone have an opinion for this one?
Never heard that one before..........look in tech tips, I think someone wrote something up on it. And if your guy wasn't joking, find someone else. They have nothing to do with the windshield, that's absurd.
Look man its real easy.. I have a targa top on my car and just did this myself. First you take the top off. Then there are 3-4 screws holding a plastic plate to the windshield bar thing... You take that off and get a small flat head screw driver and pop the quarter sized washers off... You'll need replacment washers but not expensive. The visor falls right out. Then reverse the process..
Here is a detailed description of replacing visors. I have the lighted ones and the hardest part was getting the plugs separated. If I can do it, you can also :-)
Just take your time. Be careful taking out the locking type washers in case you have to straighten and reuse them if you don't have replacements. The came with the replacement visors I ordered.
I thought that the only difficult part was reinstalling the locking washer. I did mine using speed wood working clamps with rubber pads and a 10mm socket over the visor stud to serve to press the washer on. I have now had to do the task 3 or 4 times for various reasons. You can buy the press on locking washers at hardware stores. Buy extra.
I don't know how tall you are but Im 6"3 and I removed my visors. You wouldn't believe how much better I can see out the windshield. If your tall, before you put them back on get in the seat, look out the windshield and you will see what I mean....WW

One addtiional note - on the right visor make sure you have the wires for the vanity mirror are in place (connection back inside the pillar assembly) before securing with the locking washer.
