Default Decisions...Decisions...

I'm in the middle of deciding whether or not I want to put the built 383, supercharger, etc in my GS or my 95 which is an automatic. Part of me wants a car that will run the numbers at the track to take advantage of the HP. The other part of me wants a lot of HP in the GS, just to **** off the purists. That and the HP with a 6 speed would be a blast to drive.

Anyone have thoughts/experiences or preferences for the automatic versus 6 speed arguement? I realize there are lots of things left to upgrade to put the engine in the 95, but again things would need upgrading in the GS as well.

I will say this Mr Dave.

I currently have alot of power int he 6 speed and it is a blast to drive on the street, but at the track it is almost too much to really do well with. for the track the automatic will be your best friend until..... it breaks and the rear end grenades. the dana 36 is weak and the 4L60 is not going to handle the power very long.. the 6 speed on the other hand will handle about whatever ya throw at it but run poor numbers at the track in comparison to the automatic.

the GS will certainly get more head turns with the blower!

so if the 95 gets it you may want to budget in a built tranny and rear end upgrade to at least the Dana 44. there is a company that builds a 4L80 for the C4 that is direct bolt in and rated to handle over 1000rwhp but it is VERY expensive, I think to the tune of around 6 bills.

just a matter of what you will enjoy more.. something for the track or something to have fun cruising around town and the freeway and still have fun at the track but run a little slower ET. the MPH should still be up there is not a little faster with the 6 speed!

Here is my 0.02 cents:

Buy Chris's Turbo Kit and do both; **** of the purist and kick some *** on the track......

Yeah, there would definitely be a built transmission and probably a solid axle in the works for the 95 if I went that route. If I did the 95, the stock LT1 from the 95 would be built to a 383 or 396 for the GS, but it would stay NA.

Part of what is swaying my decision is that the 96 is just a more comfortable car right now (6 way seats, climate control, etc) where the 95 is more bare bones. Since moving back to a smaller town, I've driven the 96 more often and its still enjoyable to drive with the nearly stock LT4. 100 more rear wheel HP and it would still be a blast to drive around here. On the other hand, I have a new transmission, mcleod clutch, and everything already purchased (except alcohol injection and/or intercooler) for my 96.

haha....Maybe after a few more projects get the attention they deserve. I'd LOVE that turbo setup, as it was my preference over the supercharger from the beginning.

with what you listed above and a built tranny and going solid axle I say hands down the 95! keep the GS intact to enjoy and the 95 to beat on!!!

Default been there done that

mr. dave
i have gone through what you are experiencing. i have a 94 convertible which now has only 20,100 miles.
feeling the need for speed and wanting to set this car from the rest i decided to install a vortech charger and some shorty headers. the 100hp woke the car right up but it was not fast enough. then we built a forged 383, vortech charged, gaseou$ intercooling, upgraded the exhaust with long tube header$ a full 3 inch exhau$t, 4l60e tran$ 3:54 dana 44 rear the li$t goe$ on and on.

check it out
now i am looking to sell or trade it .
After 10 years time for something different.

Nah, don't sell the sport bike. I have a Gixxer 1K, that still can't match the vette. I have been toying with another power adder system (for the bike). But this would mean the car might have to get faster.

And the cycle continues....

Yours isn't the average Vette. I sold the 'busa a couple of years ago now. I have another project (kawasaki 750 turbo), but its a long way from rideable.

Thats cool, congradulations on the home. My wife and I moved down here from New York ( wife from Virginia ) . We ended up opening up a small grooming salon for dogs. Now being one of three left here in Marianna. We love it here and find it to be a wonderful place to raise a family. ( not to sure on school systems yet ). Good luck on the house and the projects still in the works.

The schools here are good--I'm a product of them and I think I turned out fine. Its just a small community, so things are a little different. Where is your salon at? We used to have a place we took the dogs for baths and boarding in Pensacola, but we haven't found anyplace here we like for either.
