So I came back from deployment to Iraq last week and the car (85 coupe) was running great until the night before last. It started running rough and on its way home it lost 3/4 of a tank in about 25 miles of driving. I started it up yesterday and it is leaking fuel (quite alot) out of the exhaust. It's getting pushed all the way out back, although most of it is leaking out of the mufflers. I'v been researching possible causes on the boards. I've inspected the fuel lines as I've read they are prone to rusting through, but they are intact and dry. It definetly seems that the fuel is coming all the way from the engine. Could stuck fuel injectors dump this much fuel? Or am I possible looking at a bad FPR or perhaps a blown head gasket?

Steve
Steve,
Welcome back, I know I appreciate what you've done and are doing for this country!
Are you sure it is not just H20 concensation build up from the car being parked outside? Not likely to be the FPR....a stuck open injector is more likely.
No it is definetly fuel. There is also a strong fuel odor aroung the manifold however I can not see any leaks or puddles on the manifold. If you put your hand over the exhaust it will spray your hand and it leaks so much out the mufflers that it puddles guite quickly.
Ok so it is fuel. If you see no fuel around around the intake manifold then I'd look at and hook up fuel pressure gage to the rail and see what kind of pressure you got. If it is over 50psi then your FPR/FPR diaphram is blocked and is forcing all the fuel through the injectors instead of returning part of it to the tank. I'd check the pressure with out starting the engine if it is sparying that much fuel. Turn the key to the run position and the pump should prime for 2 seconds or so.....and check the pressure.
Your going to want to change the oil out for sure before you drive the thing again.
wow!!! this post is crazy! a new one on me! can not see how it could run, check your oil first!!!! see if you are over filled, gas, in oil, is a catastrophy, waiting to happen

I don't have a fuel pressure gauge on me. I will be able to get at one tomorrow and confirm the exact pressure. However it will spit fuel from the FPR hose when the hose is disconnected.

If fuel is coming out the FPR then it went into the vacuum hoses then into the intake manifold then into the cylinders. There may not be that much in the oil but I'd still change it. You called it....bad FPR Diaphram. Let that exaust sit for awhile before cranking the car up.Better pop a new FPR Diaphram in there before you crank her up again.
