Re: Gas cap pressure (RED90VETTE)
Its normal to have some pressure.
However there was someone that had a lot of pressure and it turned out his fuel lines, the canister, and the return lines were toast.
A very unsafe condition. If it seems excessive to you, then have the cannister and return lines checked out.
That was me that posted I had excessive pressure coming from the tank.On hot summer days,I could smell gas and it was boiling inside the gas tank!!
My charocal cannister was no good, and the vapor line was rusted shut, its very small in diameter and easily clogged from years of use.
I ended up replacing the line under the car,the rubber hoses and the cannister up front with new ones.
All is fixed, theres NO hissing or pressure problems anymore. It should only hiss a very tiny (normal) bit from what I was told. When the cannister and recovery system goes bad,the vapors have no place to go and build up pressure inside the tank.
If the gas cap hiss really loud and for more then 3 seconds or more and feels like the cap wants to fly out of your hands, you more then likely have a problem.
It will be most noticeable on very hot days.
