I've got a 94 LT1 and it quit last summer. It had 98K on it and since there were no codes showing, we (the shop I use AND me) figured it was the opti. Pulled the waterpump and the opti. The waterpump was just before failure(really falling apart) and the opti was in bad shape, but, still worked. Replaced both-still wouldn't start. Replace the ignition module and it fired right up.

Been running fine ever since. Runs about 10 degrees cooler in the summer and 15 or more now. Used to run hotter in the winter than in the summer. Slow traffic, NO problem-it used to scare me. I don't like the 220 degree stuff. It doesn't get above 210 now in stop and go traffic.

I figure changing the opti and WP was a GOOD DEAL.

Oops, btw, I used the MSD opti. It takes care of the change in orginal equiptment parts. And it's LOTS better as far as design is concearned. It costs more, but, it's worth it as far as I can tell. Now, I can wash my enging with a power washer and it starts up just fine.

The best way to tell is to take it off. My 94 was the 20535th one off the line - and it had the old 'weep' hole style.

Mine started going out a couple of months ago (couldn't drive it more than 5 miles without it sputtering and dying - no codes). I replaced the Optispark with the MSD (and water pump, coil, belt, wires and spark plugs while I was there) last week - just started it Saturday and it ran great, except for an oil leak - but that is a different thread...

The '94 has the Gen1 non-vented Opti. Here is a picture of the inside of my Opti, which is also a '94. This Opti only had 59K miles on it. The WP is also original.

All 1994 Corvette LT1's have the first generation splined shaft driven opti. There was not a mid-year change.
