It really does not matter as long as you have oil pressure, but...
If possible I always face oil supply hole on roller lifters to the rear of the block, as oil comes up to the cam/lifters via the main oil galley (which is in the rear of the block), intersects the cam and lifter galleys and then once in the lifter galleys travels from rear to front in a SBC.
Installed this way you put the lifters oil supply hole in the direct path of oil pressure.
