Default quick help please 1987

Can someone tell me how to get the black air filter holder off the car?
I am changing the fan motor all is well but when I turn the black thumb *****, they just seem to turn. Not the air filter cover, the compartment that holds it. I didn't know if there was a secret to getting it off

they are clipped on one end. try pulling up while turning. Dont tighten them too tight when putting them back. Also if you pull the entire housing left to right it will come off. That is for extreme measures only

Yes, keep upward pressure under plastic ****

When you finally get them off you will see the problem

After several struggles. I replaced the plastic with stamdard metal wing nuts...no problems

For some reason, plastic binds on treads and the whole assembly is a little suspect

I kept havving this problem as well. I finally wound up putting a couple of 1/8 inch pop rivits from the little metal tabs to the upper radiator shroud andd then used some grease on the threads. Problem fixed!

Irishprince definitly has the answer on how to fix it,this was my fix also, but to get it off slide a pair of needlenose pliers under the plastic intake and grab the bolt with them and hold it while you turn the plastic **** with the other hand, should come right off, mine did...WW
