Default Computer question on an 85 vette

I was told that there is a computer that is aftermarket for the 85 model vette that you dont have to program yourself and that it programs itself as you drive the vehicle and it maps itself. Is this true? If so where would I look into getting one of these and how difficult are they to install? I am asking this because the motor has been rebuilt with a different cam and pistons than the stock motor of that year.

I don't know for sure but I'll bet you heard wrong. The ECM used in the 85 is unique to that year. I doubt there would be sufficient demand to warrant the cost of design and manufacture. It is possible to reprogram the chip in the 85 but, again, not as much demand as later years. We have a couple of members that do chips, maybe they be along soon. You might consider rewiring your 85 to use the 86-89 ECM. Not very hard and a great world of increased possibilities.

Holley makes one and fast makes one. be prepared to disassemble, and add $2900.
Yo have a MAF, why not try it and see how well it keeps up?
Jet can reprogram your prom to make your original setup work for less than $300

My 85 is heavily modified...I have a mail ordered PROM from TPIS (not the preferred way to have a PROM burned) but it handles the modifications very well with the stock ECM...
