Default Header Wrap

Just welded up the holes for the emissions on my long tubes and wraped them with black fiberglass wrap I bought on e-bay.
I wet the wrap and installed it with ss wire ties. It steamed pretty bad so I cycled it many times now the wrap is tight and under hood should be cooler. Looks good as well.

Interesting. I've been back and forth about wrapping my headers for a while, but I've always heard that they pose a HUGE fire risk, with their tendency to soak up oil, and they get very hot.

When I got my TPIS headers I cheaped out and got them uncoated, I figured I would use header wrap. Two years after installing them I put new cylinder heads on the car which required removing the headers. I figured I would re-wrap with new material before reinstalling. When I took the old wrap off the headers were rusty. Nothing terrible just surface rust, I think if I had waited a year or two more it would have been a different issue. Luckily there is a company in town that does ceramic coating, and I had them coated. I woudn't use the wrap.

FYI, Header wrap holds in heat and wrapped headers have a tendancy to crack very easily. For a race car header wrap is a good idea, on a street car the headers will eventually crack.

There is a pic in my gallery. My headders were coated, I bought them used off of ebay. They had some spots on the bottom where the coating was missing so I painted them with DEI 2000 deg paint. I also cut away the smog pump bungs on the headder and welded them up so I had to paint that area as well. They have been on there for a couple of weeks now. I ran an all day drag race event with no problem and I drove the car to work a few times as well with no problems. With the ambient temps ranging from the 30's to the 50's I cant tell if it has helped any but it seems to have. I will keep you posted.
