I started the fresh engine today.

Both Fuel pumps primed
FP set at 45psi
4-7 Cam swap
Re-mapped the VE and the Spark Tables
3 bar map happy
Primed the oil pump
Phased the MSD
Hit the Key
set the Throttle plate with IAC closed
Idles at 950 RPM
Quiet/full exhaust. This cam is much smaller than the NA cam I ran last year.

Amazing

Running a 6psi spring for break in
Ran the rear end for a few miles on jack stands, because i put in a new ring and pinion 3.50

All thats left is finding a place for the K/N's and heading to the chassis dyno.

Well I feel an update is in order
I have had a lot of drama trying to get this hog on the road.

After putting the C4 on the ground, I only had 2" of ground clearence from the floor to the plastic spoiler.
So the extra weight on the front, forward of the front axle was too much for the stock leaf spring
So... I went with a dual adjustable coil over up front. 475# spring.

Then for the moment of truth. I put the car on the road and start tuning the map below atmospheric. And this is when the drama begins

Steam. A lot! Back into the garage!

Checked leakdown. Good. Checked Coolent system, dropped from 14psi to 12psi in 24 hrs. hmmm...
Obvious water entering the exhaust.

I pull the intake. I have 3 intake runners full of water

Who cares to take a stab at root cause?

Porosity in the intake runners of the 5 of the 8 cylinders

water was migrating from the steam hole up into the head bolt hole and leaking into the intake runner only under vacuum.

When I pressurized the coolent system, it pushed water into these runners with porosity holes. It held water in those that the intake valves where closed

Solution: I had the cylinder heads repaired in Michigan, from a well known welder that has mucho experience in this type of thing for some of the largest racers out there.

I rebuilt the complete engine since I had water in the pad. I checked every bearing and cleaned everything up and re-assembled

I have lost some confidence so, rather than back into the car, I chose to dyno the engine on an engine dyno before putting back into the car.
That is due to be done this week 7-6-2011.

I am going to dyno it NA to verify it is worthy to go back in and continue with the tune.

The whole settup has not seen boost yet.

John

Putting engine back into car this week
I am keeping my fingers crossed

NA Engine made 536HP, 520TQ

I dont have the exact RPM's as I just got off of the phone with them. They where wrenching on the Dyno.
The good news is the Heads are fixed, the Gaskets are whole, no steam. and fairly good power.
I thought it would do 550HP, so I suppose the lower compression and smaller came really put the.
In comparison when I put this motor in my vette it made 481HP and 451TQ at the wheels which I thought was about 20% loss in drive, but who knows.
I'm happy, hopefully into the Boost by the weekend

John
