Any idea where the ground would be on my 84? I have heard there are multiple sites. I believe many of the electronic symptoms I see are a result of a bad ground but I can't seem to find it. I have intermintent dash and radio problems, dash flickers, left hand speakers go off then come on. Before I start with other things I's like to cover the basics.
You've got a bunch of em (at least 8). The major ones besides the engine ground is a smaller frame strap that comes off the smaller gage wire from the neg terminal. THis then goes to a braided cable and grounds higher up on the block, drivers side.
There is a huge ground splice behind the center panel of the dash. There is also one in the DS kick panel area. If your weatherstripping is rotted or has been in the past, there could be corrosion on this one. Mine was very corroded. I I remember right, the dash has 3 different grounds and the radio has at least 1. If you don't have a Helms manual (assuming it is correct...a big assumption) then I can hook you up later. -Matt-
Thanks Matt, I believe this winter I'll be checking all of the grounds. I have a couple of manuals what is the Helms you were speaking about? I plan on keeping the car so investing in another book is not a problem. Thanks John
