Default Shorties

Does anybody on here have shorties on their LT1 ? I'm thinking about buying a set of headers and wanting to see what kinds of gains to expect from shorties. Also how much more work for the LTs ?
Thanks

Use the search on this. There are lots of threads on shorties. To inform you, there are no direct "bolt ons". All require modifications (ac brackets, oil dipstick, air line)

I put shorties (Hookers) on my 94 along with 1.6 rr + LT4 springs. The header install wasn't too bad. I didn't hook the air tubes back up, though.
Still have stock exhaust and now it has just enough growl to it that you can actually hear it from inside the car.

Gains at the track were very good for such simple upgrades.
Stock performance was: 13.75 @ 101mph.

With shorties & 1.6rr: 13.21 @ 106mph.

most likely the gains are more from the rocker swap.

The stock exhaust is pretty good but the headers look cool

Read up, you'll find long tubes to be the way to go. It's not that much more effort to put them in.

If you are not in California, go w/ long tubes. I had no choice, I HAVE to pass Smog/sniffer

I don't mind the emissions I can get around that. It just seems like the room in the engine bay is so tight so I was wondering how much more work it would really be to do LTs. Also I thought the shorties would be a direct fit ?

If you are in CA you will not pass the visual with long tubes if youre called into a Test-Only facility, shorties are your only option.

Yeah I'm not really worried about emissions. I'm in Texas and usually have a few buddies to inspect it haha .

PLRX, were you able to drop those in through the top or did you have to remove oi flter, starter, etc through the bottom to get those on.
