Default Help please hvac a/c ,big problem

Guys,I've done a search, heaps of info on the 90+ units but could not find a soloution for the faults with MY 89 .

1. I recently had a re-gas(although not really cool now) to hopefully sort out the problem, now another issue, the system whistles and gurgles for several seconds when turned off.
2. Even before the re-gas the HVAC digital display flashed occasionally for a few seconds, even when turned off.
3. Set in auto mode at the highest temp setting, the A\C stills blows cool from the vents(what happened to the heater??does not seem to maintain the setting preselected.
4.Digital display flashes at any time, for instance I had the demister selected for awhile then temp display started flashing/also the light for the manual fan and dimister light. Then after several seconds the whole unit goes blank(no display what soever, then aftetr a few seconds the unit comes back on and looks normal.
Advise please ,I feel like just getting a manual unit!!!

The contacts on the back of the AC head unit are your problem. The units have gold plated interlocking finger like connectors on the backside of the unit which get loose over time. Listed below are several repair alternatives.

#1 You can try to snug the connectors up with a pair of small needle nose on both sides of the connectors....This you will find will be a temporary fix only....the contacts will eventually loosen again.
#2 You can "tin" the finger connector contacts with solder to make them have a more positive contact against each other....I have not done this myself but have heard of others having success with this method.
#3 You can solder the finger contacts for both sides of the unit together. This may require to cut/grind back part of the plastic housing that surrounds the finger contacts.....I have done this mod myself and have had no problems with my AC ever since (it has been years now)

Tip: change the backlight bulbs while you have the unit apart.
