My husband installed a new starter for me yesterday. But, now, when I turn the key, instead of hearing "click", all I hear is ......silence.
Did he forget to hook something up? Battery is fine.

It is a pretty good bet that he forgot something, silence is a bad thing when you turn the key
He just needs to go back and check his work, hopefully he didn't drop it down without testing it first.
He may have forgot the small wires to the solenoid. They cause the plunger to engage the gear and connect the electrical circut for the starter motor (the clicking noise). If it was the larger battery wire, you would hear the clicking.
Hope this helps
He took the starter out again today and it works fine. Put it back and same thing. I just saw your post about the solenoid, but I think he checked that, but will check again tomorrow in the daylight. Almost reminds me of an alarm system engaging, like shutting everything off. I know I have a Viper on there too, (I didn't install that). But I also know I do not have a bypass on there for that, or at least, don't think I do.

If your car is an automatic and your dash lights and interior lights come on, try to put car in "N" Nuetral and start the car. If nothing happens and the dash lights do not go out when key is turned to start, you may have a faulty nuetral safety switch gone bad. I had this happen to me and replaced the starter and still had issue. The way I found out was by placing the shifter in nuetral and slightly moving it back and forth and the car started.
need a 12v test light hooked between the "little" post on the solenoid and any ground...whenever you turn/hold the key to "start" the test lamp should go full bright...whether it does or doesn't will tell if prob is in solenoid or in the wiring/switch/vats/etc

O.K., haven't had the issue with my 6spd, but I do know that you have to have the pedal depressed to floor before it will crank. There is probably a switch that is around the clutch pedal that has to go closed when the clutch is depressed to close the circuit. Hope this will help.

clutch pedal? I do have to depress to start the car anyway.
If he installed a new starter and solenoid, the solenoid won't have any sign of where a wire had been connected before. So, I suspect he connected the small wire to the wrong post on the solenoid. Your solenoid probably has two small posts, one should be stampted "S".
If memory serves, the small wire should be connected to the "S" terminal.
Unless you turned in the old starter and solenoid as a core, check the old starter to see where the wire was connected. Then compare that post to where the new wire is connected.
Sure, there are other possible causes, but I'd check the installtion first before diving into those as possible causes.
Last time I had a starter problem, on my 96, at times it would crank and start and at other times it was bone-cold dead, nothing when the key was turned. No click, nothing. A new solenoid cured that.
Well we think its the dreaded Viper Alarm that the former owner has installed. Anyone know anything about this. The guys here at work won't work on it anymore, too many wires. How do I get this Viper removed, remember, the car won't start.
