Tach and Odometer
Anyone have a wire schematic for the gages? Does the tach go through the computer or can it be bypassed?
The new engine is setup with a carb so most of the harness isn't used.
Thanks for looking

An additional tachometer may be added with very little trouble....run a wire to the distributor or splice into the existing tach wire for the cluster. Hard to say what will fix your cluster with the stock harness being altered from the origional configuration....wires could be unplugged, shorted/miss wired, or whatever....depending on who did the harness mod. Wires for the cluster do run back and forth to the ECM. The tach wire does not go through the computer before it reaches the cluster. Schematics which are actually useful for troubleshooting down to the component level for the 84-89 clusters are locked up in a little place called AREA 51...if you suspect only the cluster is at fault repair it yourself or send it to someone who can repair it for you. If your tach is not working you may want to check the grounding for the tach filter or replace the filter....also the wire for the tach is one of the very bottom wires in the firewall harness plug (where all the H20 collects). If the Speedometer works then the odometer should work unless the tiny motor which drives the odometer is bad....in which case you'll need a new motor. If you need a new odometer motor shoot me a PM.
