Default Transmission additive.....

I was curious if there are any that will actually help extend the life of an automatic. Or are all of them just hype in a bottle. Thanks

I have really never heard of one that did what they say, I have heard of some that stopped some leaking for awhile. If your trans is going out its going out and I don't think a bottle of anything is going to help much...WW

Best to use a fully synthetic lube for trans, but if you already have a problem, nothing will help except for repair. The additives found in the parts chain stores may quieten the noise for awhile but the long term effect is more damage which in turn will cost you more!!

back/day a bunch of us had "wet vettes" (fast boats, chevy engine wrapped in fiberglass) and trailered 'em to different lakes constantly...learned early on that auxiliary transmission coolers (small multi-tubed/fins type added in front of the car rad) were a necessity, not a luxury...those with aux coolers had NO trans trouble, those too lazy/cheap to put one on got a ride in a tow truck, usually sooner than later.

if you use rubber hoses to hook the aux cooler in, rather than steel tubing, carry an extra hose and 4 quarts of trans fluid, everywhere, forever after, you will need to do "road work" eventually... the hose WILL age and split, loose enough trans fluid to cause the car to stop...seen it happen several times, once from the driver's seat
only good news is that popping a hose never seemed do permanent damage if the vic pulled off immediately, fixed the leak, and completed the "trans flush" by adding a full load of new trans fluid asap (4 quarts was always enough to get moving again but not "full" on some)...trannies were 350/400 TH, newer may differ
