Did you ever hear someone say "you don't know JackDidleyChit" ?? Well, now you do. Spankyellow is now JackDidley.
Going out now to wear out some sandpaper on my 87. Got about 100 layers of paint on it. Anybody know any shortcuts for paint stripping ?? I think I'll start with 100 grit.
[QUOTE=rick lambert;1568100303] what prompted that??????
There was a thread going in OT about changing user names and it got me thinking it was time for a change. Anyway a girl always telling me that I dont know JackDidleyChit sort of put it in my head. Done deal now.
As for the 100 grit, I am going to try it in an area that has a lot of paint and see what happens. Knock off a layer or two and go to 180 or something. then 220 and then 320.
Well, you still don't know jackdidley, easy to understand, first NEVER listen to anything negative a girl tells you! I've been dating alot lately and have learned about selective hearing

Yea, I hear you. At least now you can say "I know JackDidley".
Be careful with that 100 grit, you don't want to remove your fiberglass. :
Yes, I will stop way before I see glass. Ther are just a couple areas that have a lot of paint. The B pillar and the front bumper are the main areas. I am dreading even going near the bumpers. I wish I new of a place thet would soda blast them.
You may be able to google media blasters in IN or check with a local body shop and they may have one or know someone who does. I'd think that the higher end body shops would use media blasting versus sand blasting.
Buy an orbital sander using 180 grit. Will remove the paint quickly without harming SMC body. You can get one at the Homo Depot for 30 bucks.
don't forget to buy a big azz air compressor to keep up with the orbital sander
and even tho it feels like it works better when you use the edge try to keep it as flat as possible or your work will end up wavy

Thanks guys. Good advice from both, I have 6" round pad DA but I don't like it cause its too aggressive and hard to control. I have 2 jitterbug sanders that are slower but better. I also have a compressor that will keep up.
Confession time. I didn't touch the car with sandpaper yesterday. I went out to the garage and decided to hang a walk in door instead. Since I've lived here there was only an alluminum storm door in place. So much cold coming in it was like an open window. I had saved an old door from the house and decided it was time to hang it. Not pretty but it stops the air.
Hey Jack, I don't know how much paint your trying to take off but if you want it all off I believe they make a liquid remover that you can paint on and it will remove it all,down to glass...WW
