Motor is racing?

1992 c4

I was having problems with my fan,i've sorted all that out and thanks for all your help.

BUT .... The battery went dead and I put a charger on it and the car started but after about 10 mins died and wouldnt start again.

I put a charger back on it went back a few hours later and it started right up.Ran for a while than started racing died and shut off again and wont start...of course the battery is dead again.The gauge says it charging so my question is...Do i need a new battery or is it something else

As everything else it was all fine till sat night.

I'll do that tomm ,but i am letting it charge all night and see what it does in the morning.

Battery checked out fine.

I'm thinking it's the fuel pump or injectors,everytime it shuts down I smell gas so...
