Default Mr. Gasket Thermocap?? / Manual fan Switch??

I need to replace my reservoir cap. Does anyone use one of these on their LT1? Any good or a waste of money? Is the correct psi for a 1995 Corvette 16psi?

http://www.mr-gasket.com/ProductDeta...minselection=2

Thanks

Corvette Central shows the cap below for a 84-96. If you read closely it says 15 lbs. Is that correct?

My coolant system has been modified with a higher capacity dewitt radiator, EWP, 160 stat, etc.. I'm wondering how/if that would effect the cap pressure. Opinions?

Is anyone using Corvette Central's manual fan switch? Does it still allow the PCM to control the fans when not switched?

1. First of all, Holley bought Mr. Gasket I think, and have been improving the Mr Gasket line of products.
2. The thermo cap is a good idea,
3. On a conventional smallblock, the temp displayed is a mix of what's in the radiator and the water that's had a chance to cool down a few degrees in the hose before it gets to the radiator.
LT-1 should dsplay an average.....
B. I made my own kit to run the fan......
you have a relay that turns on the fan from the computer, so it makes no difference where the power comes from since it is system 12 volts anyway.
When you turn on the fan, and the computer hasn't called for it, the power will just go to the "engage" terminal of the factory relay and go no farther since the computer hasn't grounded the factory relay coil and connected that terminal to any power terminal.
when the computer energizes the fan relay, the relay just connects to a 12 volt source anyway.
C. 15, 16, 17, all good PSI pressures for the modern engine unless it's a Mercedes that runs at 24 PSI.
I personally run a 17 PSI cap .
The reason for pressurizing the radiator.............
1. for every pound of pressure that you pressurize the water, the boiling point goes up 3 degrees. so instead of boiling at 214, at 17 PSI, the water boils at 265 degrees.
Boiling water tends to release the air from the water and disrupts the water surface touching the engine parts that needed the cooling.
2. Pressurizing the water system helps keep the water pump from cavitating.
3. Pressurizing the water system helps to eliminate slugs of large water bubbles by forcing the bubbles into smaller bubbles as the water flows through the system, depositing the air into the radiator reservoirs

Might be OK if ya like bling but I think it is a waste of money. You already have 2 temp sensors.

Rick, I think its a little like my SLP cold air induction (the claw) air cleaner.......looks great but not much better than a K & N with a cut lid.

Thanks for all the advice/info. I think if it is made well and will last it may be worth a try. I don't really care about the bling factor. I was thinking that it may be nice to have a gage under the hood so I don't have to keep running back to check the dash gage when messing with the cooling system. Although it sounds like it would tell me less about the engine temps and more about the radiator temp. At least I would have some idea. I guess it would also give you a better indication of when it's safe to open the cap. Usually I just use a big thick rag with a plastic bag on top and burn the crap out of myself. I have little patience when stuck on the side of the road. I doubt a gage will change that though.

I definately want to hook up the fans to turn on with a switch but still allow them to run normal with the PCM info. Does anyone have a diagram for this. It sounds like I just need to run a power on wire to the remote on's for the three fan relays.?? Is that correct? Does it go to all three? What about a ground? What type of switch? A diagram would be great. If not the Corvette central kit is not that expensive and I'm sure it comes with instructions.

This is the accessory on wire I used to power on my EWP. Does power need to go to all three of these or one particular wire on a relay?
