Default Plexiglas Rear window

I remember seeing an advertisement for plexiglass rear window for C4s, it says it will save 50 lb over the glass, also I think Wheels Up has a lightweight front end.. ?

How much of a weigh saving is this over stock..

Is it feasible for me to replace my rear glass with Plexi...& save 50lb.. The car is garaged all the time..

I'm thinking 50lb would be a nice saving worth about .04. - .05 I hear it costs about $400

If anyone knows who sells em please let me know.. Also is it a good idea?

Thanks Mark...
I am getting a catalog sent tomorrow..they also have front ends like Wheels Up.. that will take almost 80 lb off the front, & when painted it looks stock!

Mackey..

PANUZZO, YOU HAVE LOST YOUR MIND

WHY do you say that.. I am looking to save some $$ (still not working) If I go heads or cam etc, I'm looking at $3000 + & yes I'd pick up .4 with a good cam or heads.. and run 11.6 like you with BOTH..cam & heads + lots of $$$$$

However I'm thinking of the $$ first.. also the Lexon rear hatch weighs 7 lb vs 68 lb for the stock window..

I'm thinking I spend only $400, will have NO tuning problems, the car as it is now is very consistent, & by doing the rear window, & removing the spare, & save app 100 lb = .10 & the car is not laid up for 1 day..

Its a bolt in job, and I think .10 for $400 ant a bad deal..

Look at Wheels Up.. granted his is a race car, but he weighs less than 3000 lb

I picked up almost .10 when I changed to Weld Pro Star wheels, what's so

 about a Lexon rear window? The car is in the garage at home, it should not be a problem at the track, & I think for app 60 lb reduction it might not be a bad idea..

Why do you think its so crazy ?? I can always put the stock window back in in an hr..

Every little bit helps John P. It doesn't sound THAT crazy to me. It's difficult to get weight off of these cars without drastically affecting something else. I think it'd prolly be OK to leave in during race season(Switch it back like now you have the GSC tires on). Go for it.

BTW, nice sig pic :D

How the heck do I get an avatar like that?

Did you know alot of that weight loss is because Phil has no HEADLANP assembly in that car.
See if you badge get you out of a ticket on the GWB ON A FRIDAY NIGHT leaving NJ AT 10PM????????

But $400 bucks for -60 lbs ????????

Maybe I'll get one.

Lets see less weight, new trans and convertor, updated tuning.

Ya, 10.90 no problem :D

thanks JD... I really did not think that idea (Lexon rear hatch) was so off the wall... JM wants to run 10.90s & I'm SURE he will probably see it... I would like 12.2 - 12.3 & still be able to afford to race every week..

Send a amall photo that you want to ... Bigtoe@corvetteforum.com ... & he will put it up for you in 2-3 days.. nice huh :)

TKX LOVE both my Sig, and the avatar... nice work..

Here's a question, my windshield is cracked currently thus needing replacement?

Would it be safe to get a lexan windshield replacement?
Cost??

And who in the world would install such a thing?

Thanks John P....Glad we exorcised(SP?) the demons! :D.

Going faster isn't always better. The quicker/faster you go, more likely your parts will need attention sooner(Not always...but you get the idea).

Has anyone used this before? My experience with lexan has that it scratches very easily and starts to look bad - as well as yellowing and other weather related effects.

But if they have these problems addressed then it's a very tempting setup indeed..

Hello,I just saw this post.Number uno,you guys are optimistic about the weight saving for the the rear hatch. The reduction is ~35 lbs.The hood is ~60lbs.All you "diehard" racers will eventually go with this setup...trust me!I thought about these changes for months. before I come to this conclusion .Hint:go with the 28" slicks, but step up the rear end ratio to 4.30.
P.S: I have a 4.30 Dana R&p for sale.Greart combo for the 28" dia. tires.

Phil, do you also have the Lexon or Plexiglass rear window? If so any problems installing... ? water leaks etc?

J.M,you got mail!
J.P,yes,I have the lexan rear hatch. There were no pre-drilled holes. The biggest PITA was to locate a rear hatch cover to mount it on.Fagetaboutit,do not try to use your old cover, because the glass is bonded to the cover.
Call anytime for details.Mack has my phone # :yesnod:

On the contrary, you CAN get the glass separated from the panel. It's glued on...but you have to do it VERY CAREFULLY. It can be done. When My Car was painted... I had the rear hatch glass re-tinted. It went back togehter no problem. I will say it's heavy! Give it a shot John P.

JP,I did not say that one could not remove the rear glass from the cover, but someone did say be VERY CAREFULL.If you want to take the risk of breaking a $500. piece of glass, its your call.I opted to buy a $5.00 used cover and attached the lexan.I still have my original rear hatch glass with the original cover, just in case someone ever needs to replace their rear glass.
Good luck
