Default Engine Builder????

I'm going to have my engine rebuilt. I think it will be a 383, maybe more. Does anyone know an engine builder with a good reputation within a couple hours of the Fayetteville Arkansas area. I'd prefer to just drop the car off, but if necessary I can have the engine pulled and drop off the engine. Also what advice would those of you that have gone through this already give me. Should I go 396, 400 small block, 355 or what? I run a small shot of nitrous (50hp) right now but I'll build it for either a bigger shot or a supercharger. The car is not a daily driver, but I want to be able to drive it on the street. Would a solid roller setup be worth it, I'd like to do this once and be satisfied with the power. What kind of numbers would I be able to expect. The car has a More Performance top end kit now. I hope to be able to tell a significant difference. Thanks in advance for the help.

What engine combination you went with would be a function of what your HP goals are and what your budget is.

A 400sb stroked out to a 434+ with a solid roller and 18 degree set of heads would be a pretty nice combination though ;)

ChrisB-
I'm not sure what my budget will be. Of course I'd like to get out of this spending as little money as possible, but there is no way I'm going to rebuild it stock. I'd like to get some ideas of prices and packages. I have someone lined up to pull the engine, but a turnkey job would be great.

the general pricebreaks are going to be

1) Stock crank + stock/forged rods + forged pistons
Can work up to 550 or so rwhp with a power adder, probably
400-430rwhp is the max you could get NA/streetable.

2) 383/cast crank/forged piston/rods
This really will not cost much more than (1) and will give you a nice
torque boost as well as hp boost.
In a power adder setup I would keep it under 600rwhp, and also keep
the rpm under 7000.

3) 383/396 forged crank/rods/pistons
if you go witha forged crank than the price difference between a 383/396 is
very small. Which you go with will depend on mainly if you are going with
a blower setup or a na or nitrous setup.

There are of course tons of other little thigns, which rods you go with, heads, cam, valvetrain type, etc. But those are going to be probably the main focal points above for any buildup. If you want some specific pricing information send me an email

I think Chris B. hit it on the nose for your basic combos.

Theinches will give you more tq and the potential for more hp. Getting it built right will give you reliability and even a little more hp. The Heads and cam however will still be the primary power mod. I'd go bigger than the 355 maybe a 383 or 396. :chevy
