I have heard of failures, but in my experience the stock ecm can handle quite a bit of abuse. You could inspect the prom to make sure is being held in by the 2 clips. I would also start looking for the problems elsewhere, such as dist. module etc.

FIRST check with ALL injected engines is FUEL PRESSURE... should hear the pump run for 2 seconds when the ign switch is first turned to "on" but not to "start" (may need to remove gas cap and put your ear near the hole while a helper turns the key if in a noisey area)... if you hear the pump hum, get a $15 tester from harbor fright...pressure should be near 40 psi, still hold 10 psi after 12 hour sit (don't need to run engine to do this test)
second check for spark...do NOT pull a wire off the top of the distrib (old school method) as the HEI may build enough "juice" trying to fire too much gap that it arcs internally and self-destructs, unplug a plug wire from any spark plug and use a well grounded spare spark plug to test...if no spark, the "ignition module" inside the distrib is a very common culprit (i carry a spare + tools in all my HEI cars)
