There aren't too many companys that make the louvers for the C4. HJV11 and myself have looked for years for a nice set that cost less than the greenwoods. $350 is a bit high for something that plain. Mallett used to make a great hood for the C4 with built in louvers but they don't make it anymore, nor do they have the molds for them either.
Be REAL careful about buying the cheaper C% West or Vanacor, they are NOT cut out in the vents and are NOT functional, I had them and sent them back. They will require a LOT of work and very careful cutting to get them to look right. Greenwoods are 275.00 but are real quality and have inner baffles to move the rain into the wheel wells!
Who's black vette is that? That thing looks sweet. Too bad its not a 6spd. Great pics though...
It is a guy in my area who is a cruiser. He has never run the car at the track, and has stated that he never will. The first time he put sticky tires on it he would shatter the drivetrain. :) The drivetrain is completely stock. :(
The car is a supercharged 383 w/nitrous. You do the math. :D
Great looking picture of GC4R hood louvers, i am not to eager to start cutting holes in my hood but if these things are truly functional, good quality and will significantly reduce under hood temperature i might be interested. How do they attach. Might be another possible GP if enough interested.
There seems to be some air pressure under the hood. If I drive with the hood unlatched
it rises with speed. This is not a scientific test (hood strut also active) but I estimate
about 20 to 40 pounds of pressure at 65 mph. Louvers should vent some lift.
Thanks 94vette I'll try to find that at my favorite Kroger store next trip down there. Still got to believe this could be an excellent aftermarket piece if truly functional, I don't at all like the incredible heat buildup under the hoods of our cars. Seems like there would be more of a market for this than I can find.
I have a set of the Greenwood Louvers installed on my ZR 1. What I thought was soooo nice was the fact that when it rains the engine will not get wet. The under hood diverters were what I liked. I would be happy to take a picture of the hood but the car is at the wrenchs.
As for the instal I did it when I got a Carbon Fiber hood so everything had to be painted anyways. I got the low rise hood which also ducts out at the front window. The combo of the 2 keeps the car nice and cool.
I think Greenwood only alows the vents on BLACK cars. Thats why us BLACK car guys got em!!!!!!
That don't sound quite politically correct, maybe they should change their name to Blackwood. Guess I could fib a little if I decide to call them, they still seem to have the best product though. :chevy
I had the Greenwood hood louvers installed a month ago when my '96 LT1 was in the shop for body damage ($400.-). Hard to figure an exact price since there was alot of insurance work being done at the same time. They are great and I've noticed a definite drop in engine temps while stuck in LA traffic. I'll post pictures soon now that my our new computer and scanner are up and running. Installed a cross bar and camber brace as well as my GS calipers in the last two weeks. Can't say enough good things about the RD Racing products, it's the way Vette's should have been built. First coat of wax goes on the car this weekend... :D
I think a group purchase would be a great idea. The main reason I would not go with headers is the heat but with these louvers maybe I could live with them. Even without headers the engine coompartment gets way too hot!

you can Jet Hot Coat the headers... or, wrap them.
