Default Grounds......

I see a lot of answers to questions stating "Check ground wires".

Exactly how many main ones are there on a typical LT1?

I know I have seen two main ones on my '96. One on the right side attached to the frame. A group of 4 attached to a tranny bolt on the left side. These are braided cable type. Are there more?

Your best bet is to get a service manual. There are a LOT of grounds related to different sensors and the different computers. I know when I was chasing a problem with my 95, there were grounds all over the place. Most of the ones I was looking for were on the drivers side of the block tied into one of two locations though.

Thanks Dave
I have one but I'm not the brightest puppy in the litter when it comes to reading the damn thing. I'm getting there....just takes a while.

I believe the FSM schematics show all the grounds marked with GXXX. There is a section that will show you where they are located with a drawing (that's how I found several). I'll try to look tonight and post what sections I found everything in.

The ground descriptions are in section 8A-14 (in my 96 manual) and the drawings showing their actual locations are in 8A-201.

Weav's Vet,

The info others will be providing should help you.

Are you asking because you have a problem or suspect a problem? If so, advise the issue and we might be able to point you at the particular ground point to check (e.g. many instrument panel issues are related to the ground behind the driver's side footwell outer 'kick' panel.

Not at the moment Admiral. I'm just starting to realize how important they are though.
