Default Diagnostic port differences

Whats the difference in diagnostic ports in an 89 and a 93? A friend has Datamaster and the cables for his 93 and I wondered if i could plug into mine.

From Datamaster's web page....

89 Y-Body 5.7L PFI (L98) DM35x32 - Complete Installation
NOTE: 86-89 LB9 and L98 vehicles require 10K resistor modification in the interface.

93-95 Y-Body 5.7L (ZR1) DM35xZ2 - Complete Installation

Different definition files...just download the one above for your car, software is the same, you get 20 free uses.

Hopefully, your friend's interface module includes the 10k resistor. Otherwise buy one and put it across pins A & B at the ALDL connector. It only changes/matches the baud rate of the computer.

Is there a particular 10k resistor I should get? And which pins are A and B? Thanks

I told you wrong. The resistor is not for the baud rate but is for a car w/ TPI - MAF sensor. I've looked at too many cables/connectors lately. Try it without the resistor, you may not have to worry about it. If it syncs up, you're good to go.

A and B are the 2 top right pins. Here is a link to look at the connector.

Scroll down below the cable shown.

So is it as easy as sticking each end of a 10k ohm resistor into A and B, then plugging in the ALDL cable?

If I try to connect without the resistor am I going to fry my ECM?

No, you won't fry anything. You just may not get a reading from the TPI sensor.

You might look behind the ALDL connector and see if pin B is wired. If not, you don't need the resistor. If so, and you can stick the resistor behind the connector, that will be good.
