Default Laptop....

I'm looking for a used one locally. Are there any special OS (XP, 98, Amount of memory, hard drive space, etc, etc) requirements needed to use it on my vette for scans. I know I need software but I am talking about the laptop itself.

Thanks,
Weav

Not to sure on the minimum requirements, if you search this section I'm sure you can find the answers.

I recently bought mine on ebay from CSR Technologies. Dell, D610, Pentium M, 512 mb ram, built in wireless. I paid under $300 shipped.

I did have a prob. with the power supply. Called CSR cust. service, sent me a replacement, had it in 3 days, other wise it has been great.

I bought mine for the same purpose as you. Funny thing is, I use it more than my desktop. Hell, I'm using it right now!

I downloaded Datamaster for free, just waiting on my cable to do some logging.

I just looked at CSR Technologies. They have um don't they! Got a bid on a Dell that ends today. I'll see what happens! I'm sure it will do the job just fine!

Thanks Again EastCoast!

It helps to get a laptop with a serial port. Some including myself have had a hard time connecting with USB ports.

That figures. The cable I ordered is a USB.

At the time I bought my ALDL cable ~6 years ago they weren't available in USB. I was trying to use a USB to Serial adapter. Hopefully, with the new USB cables you will have an easier time connecting.

I did actually. I got one just like this one, Click. It should be more than enough to do what I want. It will be here this afternoon. Thanks again for the tip! I believe I'm going with this software. I think it has the most features for the money. With the enhanced parameters it's going to run around 400.00.

What software? I could not get the link to work.

I'm in the middle of doing the same thing you are and have noticed that for ODBII you need one program to read the diagnostics and another to change. Are you experiencing the same thing?

I'm using Datamaster, free trial, can use it 20x before requiring the full version. Check it out here ... http://www.ttspowersystems.com/DataM...downloads.html

I fixed the link.
Yes I have noticed that. I have a performance tune already so unless I decide to do more in depth mods it will be fine for now. That's kind of over my head anyway.:o

Data Master only goes up to '95 I believe. Mine is a '96.

That is what is confusing me. I didn't know that the 20 free works on the 96. All you need is a laptop and USB? That would be fantastic!!
