Replaced the driver side u-joints and the car is still thumping hard into 2nd and 3rd. There is some play in the passenger side, if I hold the driver side tire still. But the u-joints look good, could I have a problem with my gears or are the pass. side joints also bad and I cannot see?
When I start off at half throttle or better, the car shifts perfectly. No noise or anything.
Put the car in 1st or park depending on your application and get out of the car and give it a good hard shove forward and backward (rock it)and listen. Often times you can hear bad U joints pop around under the load. It is easier to identify bad U joints if your at eye level with the joint during the shove test....this may require an assistant.....do not get run over by your own car during testing.
Did you remove the C-beam recently ? If it is not torqued down properly it will thunk. I changed all the u-joints at once, driveshaft and halfshafts. They are cheap enough and if one side is wore out how good could the other side be ? Just my .02 Good Luck with the fix.

U-joints should be replaced in pairs. Both sides should have nearly equal wear..WW

I will try this and if I get run over w/car in park. I will know it is the u-joints and not the gears going bad.
