Default Keyless Entry Problem...I Think

O.k. Here is my problem. If I hold down the "door " button on my transmitter 2 seconds, ot disengages my keyless entry as it should. Once It is disengaged, is the transmitter totally worthless, or should I be able to lock/unlock the car when I press the "door" button? HELP!!!

Hi, totally a shot in the dark here, but I just got one for my '93. When you hold down the button for two seconds it TURNS OFF the proximity sensor so the remote is useless untill you hold it down for two seconds again to turn this function back on. Then when you walk away it locks the doors automatically. This is a brand new remote so i assume this is just the way it works. It does NOT lock or unlock the doors, it only turns the proximity sensor on and off.

BTW, don't know what year your C4 is or what years the proximity sensor were used, but see if that helps

Thrills is on the right track to disengaged/engaged the PKE by holding the button for 2 sec.... but the transmitter Only UNLOCKS when the button is pressed, so if u turn off the PKE u have to lock your doors the manual way.

Thrills i sent u info on the PKE from the Helms...but Hotmail has limits on xfers so i had to send it in sections..and i think i filled up your mail box...cause i cannot send anymore mail without being rejected.

Casey i also sent u the info...your xfer seems to be ok and was not rejected.

thanks  I have not had a chance to read it though. I knew that you had to lock them manually when it's off, but can you use the remote to unlock by depressing the button EVEN when the proximity sensor off? I assumed it was only to turn that feature on and off and did not lock or unlock the doors (exceot when it clicks through the cycle when turning the sensor on and off)

Wow! Yet another cool feature of PKE! I was starting to get a little annoyed with my car locking/alarming itself everytime I went to get a different tool from the garage when I was working on it.

Good piece of info!

Just keep in mind too...the antenna is only in the hatch and drivers door, so it will only be really sensitive in those areas...might be more of a chore getting it to work walking up to the passenger side.

CaseyC, looks like you're in a 95/96 with those gills, but in my 93 the door function only works for the passenger door (and this is correct per the owner's manual). Also according to the OM, there is an antenna pickup on the passenger side of the car too.

PKE's such a finicky system. 1 out of 10 times mine will lock but not honk. Argh.
