Quick question. I have an early 86 with iron heads and am trying to figure out how many O2 sensors are supposed to be on my car. I have only one single wire sensor on the driver's side exhaust pipe just under the flange where it bolts to the exhaust manifold. When I bought this car it had already been chopped up...only has two mufflers in the back. Thanks in advance.
i have an 85, and my car only has one 02 sensor (one wire) .i don't think they changed this till later. it is in the same place as you described. and what do you mean only 2 mufflers? it only has 2 mufflers.

i dont know about your year, but mine only has one main cat. im not quite sure when pre cats came out.
mufflers aren't cats and cats aren't mufflers
According to my FSM, they had pre cats just under the flange where the O2 sensor is , but on both sides, then came down into one cat, and then two mufflers in the rear
The 86 came stock with two precats (one on each side), one catalytic converter, and two mufflers in the rear. It also only has one O2 sensor on the drivers side (purple wire).

Thanks. I guess the reason I was asking is that the early models like mine have the batch fired injectors, and it just seemed to make sense that there would be a sensor on each side...
