I'm looking for a manual steering rack for my '96. I use it for road racing and I'm having some serious issues. I cannot seem to keep the fittings tight on the pressure line.
I did some searching and I can't find any info on anyone who has done a manual rack. I've seen several posts where people say it will be a bad idea, but plenty of race cars with big tires run manual steering setups and I've been told a manual setup gives better feedback.
Has anyone swapped to manual? Does anyone know the specs on the current rack to look for a replacement?
sorry to revive such an old thread, but this thread seemed to have the most traction when I searched "manual steering"
Any one done this in recent years?
-edit- By the way I contacted Flaming River this morning and the guy didn't seem too interested in even talking to me . . .
I never made any real progress with a manual rack. You could just de-power the stock rack, but that will have a higher steering effort than a dedicated manual rack.

Agreed, which is why I want a "real" manual rack.
I'm willing to put some decent money into it if I can find a good solution.
It may come down to finding a fabricator who is willing to tackle it, unfortunately the guy that did such a sweet job on my chassis is no longer in town.
