Here is an odd problem with the electronic dash and/or the computational computer. The Sled's arithmetic has taken a turn for the worse. When the display is set on the Range function, I dont get the first digit on the display. The odd thing is it isnt the hundred or the ten digit, its the first digit. If the tank has plenty of fuel where it would have a hundred number to display, it does not but the tens and ones do. When it is low on fuel, less than 100 mile range, I only get one number, the ones digit. The compoutation drops as fuel is burned like normal but it refuses to display all of the digits. When you shift over to the trip meter function, no problems.
Is this a problem with the display or the computer? It doenst effect functionality of the car at all so it isnt a big deal, just wondering if anybody has experiened this and what was done to solve it.
So the ECM does the range calculations? I will check on the loose connections but since the display shows everything but the first digit, it would seem to be ECM or what ever part is responsible for sending the info to the dash unit. I certainly wont rule anything out because its so weird. Maybe resetting the ECM will "jog" its memory. Thanks, Mike!
The ECM does not do the Range calculations, or the MPG or anything else involved in the "OIC" (Operator Information Center) stuff. All the ECM does is provide a fuel flow number, that's it.
The circuit card behind the switches (The OIC) does the heavy lifting when it comes to all of the trip computer functions. It's That board which is acting up, or the connections between that board and the dash display. Or the display itself. You did say that the trip odo was working OK, right - all three digits working when That is selected?
The OIC/DIC connectors or switches themselves may have a problem too....try to clean/reseat the connector(the small one) to the cluster. Those complete panels are cheap to buy used. There is an auto and manual (has an extra wire for the OD) tranny style.
Hmm, I dint think about checking the 3 digits on the odometer. I will have to drive 100 miles or so to check that. Ron, Engle, I appreciate those tips on where to look for the problem. I will keep yall posted.
