Default Lower trim panel removal

Driver's side, 1996.

The page in the FSM is rather vague on this subject and the illustration doesn't help much. I'd like to know how many fasteners have to be removed and their locations. I can see the two hex head fasteners going through the knee bolster which I assume have to come out, but there must be more.

There are 2 smaller hex fasteners on the side (facing the door panel). I don't recall exactly how many are on the front of the hush panel, but I'm pretty sure there's more than 2. One is up close to the tunnel.

*edit* = the one I'm thinking of close to the tunnel may be for the metal panel underneath the hush panel - my car is in storage, so I'm working from faded memory

Thanks, that should help. The diagram makes better sense now that I know what to look for.

trim panel comes out easily, pretty much get the obvious fasteners. Removing the knee bolster though is more complicated.

No, it's the carpeted strip just above the trim panel.

Mine is sitting in the (unheated) garage also. I'm in the northeast and it's f'in freezing. I'm waiting for a warm day to get into it.

The knee bolster is the (somewhat) heavy metal panel up "above" the carpeted trim panel.
