Default Help?

I'm new to Corvettes, and I just bought a 1984 coupe. When I got back from running errands, there was a little smoke coming from under the hood by the windshield. It almost looked like steam it was so light. I couldn't really smell anything burning, but I'm not sure. Any ideas?

Check the engine cooling system once it is cold and see if it is low on fluid. If yes, check system for leaks, drips and/or bulging hoses.

Pop the hood and take a peek around. Hopefully the source will be obvious. I'm getting the impression you're new to car repair, so my suggestion would be to take the car to a decent mechanic or ask a knowledgeable friend to give you a few pointers. It might be a minor leak/problem at the moment, but get an "expert" opinion to make sure it's not a long term expensive issue.

Not only check your hoses as indicated above, but check for any wires or hoses that may have fallen onto the exhaust manifold. You should also look closely for any small oil leaks around the valve covers that may have leaked small amounts of oil onto the exhaust manifolds.

You need a combination of a heat source and something to make smoke...oil, coolant, wire coating or rubber hoses.

Good luck.
