Default Transmission Question

I'm putting an auto trans in my 89 and was wondering if a 4L60E or 4L65E would work instead of a 700R4, because I want to use a paddle shift kit with it and it wont work with the 700R4.

Any answers appreciated.

There was a thread awhile back detailing that swap. You could also use an air ram shifter with buttons on the wheel. I had one in a previous car, it was great.

Josh, a 4l60 or 65 will work. But factor in around $2k more for the electronic versions. The paddle shifters are less than 1k, but you also need the external computer controls for the transmission which are another 1k. Then I believe you will need to modify your current Cbeam, and drive shaft. Both of which would need to be done with any transmission, because it sounds like you have a 6speed now.

Any T700 / 4L60E / 4L60 is a bolt in swap ,no mods needed if you use the Vette trans ext housing.
You need a 27 spline (T350 / GLIDE /T700 ) yoke on your existing driveshaft if changing from a ZF6.
