Default 1995 problem

Hello, Yesterday was a nice day so I started up 1995 coupe for the first time in about a month it runs fine like it always has but there is a little message by the speedometer that flashes SYS every few minutes.I cant seem to find what that means in any of my books. Could anyone help me with this? Thanks BOB R.

I'm pretty sure it means a code has been thrown. You'll need to pull the code to see what the issue is.

That flashing SYS light is telling you that the battery is low. You should throw on a trickle charger when the car sits for long periods.

Had the same problem, it was a weak battery, replaced it and sys went away.

This is probably a decent way to go. Bottom line is the battery is not new anymore and just cannot hold a charge as it once did. If you drove it as a DD or once a week it might never indicate the SYS indication. However as with age things change and it might just need a trickle to keep it up.

HOWSER was correct and "SYS" means that a code is stored. It seems that a weak battery is often the root cause, leading to responses such as the next few.

We just need to be clear.

For example, even with a good battery, my car constantly flashes "SYS" for a C72 (IIRC) code for a malfunction in the radio dimming circuit. In my case, it is because that circuit doesn't exist in an aftermarket radio, but a stock radio could just as easily throw the code for either a bad circuit or a weak battery not allowing the circuit to function.

The CCM monitors a bunch of different things, and one won't know for sure what is going on unless the codes are looked at and the problem diagnosed. Why throw a new battery at the problem if you might just need a new light bulb?

Just for the record, I was having hard start problems on my '93 with about a 5 year old battery. I put a new Delco in about a month ago, I was driving the car yesterday and it was flashing the SYS code....Car has been acting weird lately......
