What oil/weight/viscosity are you currently using?
Have you changed the sender out yet? All the analog gages use the same ground on your year application so your issue might be with the sending unit.
What is the actual pressure reading that you see/feel is too high....is it consistantly too high?
It's been my experience that the sender and the gauge are a matched set. So changing one and not the other could cause what you're seeing.
Where is your sender mounted?
Are you running a high pressure oil pump? When I ran a HP pump, it ended up killing the gear that meshes with the camshaft. I went through three gears before I zeroed in on the cause.
You could verify the accuracy of your gauge reading by temporarily installing a mechanical gauge.
You could try going with 0-40 full synthetic to see what effect it has on the pressure.
The sender i believe is original. I'm running a stock oil pump..where is it mounted?
On the rear china wall. You'll need a special GM oil pressure sender socket available at AutoZone. I had to use a dremel and widen it out a little to fit the new Delco sender. I think I have a picture of it around here somewhere...It is definitely shown in the engine blow-up figure in the FSM though.

Back of the motor behind the intake manifold on the driver's side. There is a black bell shaped thing that is the pressure sending unit. It's to the driver's side of where the distributor comes out of the block.

I didn't use any special wrench though. Don't remember if being that big a deal. You might have to pull the distributor to gain access to it. Mine was already pulled when I did the swap.
