Can someone please tell me if I have anything to worry about with my ABS module located underneath the storage bin behind the driver's seat? When I start the car up and back out of the garage, I go about 75 feet and I hear a humming sound coming from the compartment. It only hums after start up for approximately 3 seconds and then it doesn't happen again until after I turn the car off and start it back up. It is almost as if it is building pressure up in the system. Any input would be appreciated.
The ABS system is tested when you first get going ( about 3 MPH, forward or reverse). I would assume this is what you are hearing. Also, at this time, the ABS light on the dash should come on. At least on my 1991 this is what happens.
Your vehicle has anti-lock brakes (ABS). ABS is an advanced electronic braking system that will help prevent a braking skid.
When you start your engine and begin to drive away, your anti-lock brake system will check itself.
You may hear a momentary motor or clicking noise while this test is going on, and you may even notice that your brake pedal moves a little. This is normal.
If there’s a problem with the anti-lock brake system, this warning light will stay on. See “Anti-Lock Brake System Warning Light” in the Index.
