OK, i am the rookie and you guys are the experts so i guess the only thing to do is replace the TPS tomorrow and see what happens when i hook up the multimeter and if i can set it correctly then i disconnect the ground cable to the battery and wait a minute then reconnect and see if codes are clear and i am good to go. Am i missing anything????
Also on a side note does the description i gave sound like the stock chip?
I wanted to get the earlier post...posted before going into this.
When I first bought my 85 I did not know the Forum existed. I wanted to get more power and the advertising about the Hyperteck chip seemed to be the answer to a prayer...WOOO HOOO 50 HP by just replacing the chip. Over the next couple of years I had a problem with PING when going up hills. It didn't make any difference what grade of fuel I ran, octane additives etc....nothing seemed to make a difference. This was a on again and off again problem. I just could not get a handle on it. I finally, just started playing with the distributor. Move the distributor.....drive a 1.6 mile loop up and down hills....PING....turn the distributor some more....drive again. I finally ALMOST eliminated the problem. When I had a custom chip burned by TJ Wong as the car was dyno'd and data logged, Tom did a base line run before playing with the settings. He found that the Hypertech chip was advancing the timing up to 43 degrees and removing fuel during this advance. THAT WAS THE SOURCE OF MY PING. He reworked the chip to advance to about 34 degrees and added fuel. No more PING. - Once you get the TPS problem solved, then look into the chip.

I can't speak for the others here but I'm no expert.....just worked on the TPI set ups for a long long time....they're fun when the run. I think your on the right track. These chip can have different #s depending on ECM you run. Some people repin the connectors to run diffent year ECMs in their car.....but that is a story for another time.
Robert, just to be sure.....on the passanger side of the TB there is a tab (arm) attached to the butterfly shaft. When you give the TB some throttle by hand (car not running) this arm should rotate toward the front of the car and downward. This arm should be on top of the TPS arm so that when you give it throttle both arms should move together. Are they doing this?
That was my first thought too , that the TPS wasn't indexed properly.

Yes they are moving properly.
I was hoping to dive into this today and fix it but i am jst getting in at 11pm so it will have to wait till tomorrow. I hope it is just the TPS needing replacemant
All is now well, installed new TPS and codes cleared without even adjusting it in. Adjusted it right to the middle of the range, Idle is down at 760 RPM and no check engine light
THANK YOU ALL, see my next issue in tranny noise thread LOL
Seriously guys, thanks a ton
