My 1992 C4 automatic will not shift out of first gear, it also appears to be slipping and hits hard when I put it in Drive. Transmission fluid is in cross hatches while idiling in park. Every thing was running fine and I had not noticed any problems, the car has 112K miles.
Anyone familiar with these symptoms?? Am I due for a rebuild??
My car will behave this way when it is extremely cold here in Florida(~ below 45 F ) First thing in the morning it won't want shift out of 1st until the engine/fluids warms up just a bit. Then the car is fine the rest of the day. From what I have read and be told by CF members I have a busted govenor gear in the tranny and/or a bunch of crap in one of the valve bodies. Perhaps you have a similar issue.
Of course my repair is on my "to do" list....but I'm in no hurry since it is warmer now....maybe next winter I'll fix it.
